What Is LAMDA?

LAMDA — the London Academy of Music & Dramatic Art — offers internationally recognised qualifications in performance and communication.

Preparing for LAMDA exams can help children and teenagers develop confidence, clear communication, creativity, interpretation and performance skills — valuable both on stage and in everyday life.

Students can progress through different grades as their skills and experience develop, giving them a clear sense of achievement and progression.

Junior LAMDA – Ages 7–11

Junior LAMDA offers a supportive introduction to acting and communication training for younger students.

Sessions help children develop confidence, expressive speaking, character work, imagination and performance skills at an age-appropriate pace.

Students are encouraged to explore material creatively while beginning to understand how voice, movement and expression can bring a character, poem or piece of prose to life.

Senior LAMDA – Ages 12–16

Senior LAMDA offers more in-depth training for older students who are ready to develop their performance and communication skills further.

Students explore interpretation, character development, vocal technique, performance analysis and more advanced material, while building the confidence and independence needed for higher-level examinations.

This class can be particularly valuable for teenagers interested in acting, public speaking, audition preparation or further performing arts training.

What Happens in Our LAMDA Classes?

Each student is supported according to their age, experience, interests and goals.

Depending on the most suitable pathway, students may work towards Acting or Speaking Verse & Prose examinations.

🎭 Acting

Acting students develop skills including:

Universities decide how individual qualifications are considered within their admissions process.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does my child need previous acting experience?

No. Students can join LAMDA at different stages, and we’ll help identify an appropriate starting point based on their age, experience and confidence.

Enthusiasm and a willingness to learn are far more important than previous training.

Does every student have to take an exam?

No. Although exams are an important part of LAMDA training, students are supported at a pace that is appropriate for them and there is no pressure to enter an exam before they are ready.

We’ll discuss exam options with you and recommend when we feel your child is ready to work towards a particular grade or qualification.

Which LAMDA exam will my child take?

This depends on their age, experience, interests and goals.

Students may work towards Acting or Speaking Verse & Prose, and we’ll recommend the pathway and grade that we feel best supports their development.

Are LAMDA examination fees included in class fees?

LAMDA examination entry fees are separate from weekly class fees and vary depending on the grade and examination taken.

We’ll always explain the relevant exam fee before any entry is made.

Where do LAMDA exams take place?

Exams may be taken online or in person, depending on the examination format and arrangements available at the time.

We’ll give you full details in advance and make sure your child knows exactly what to expect.

Can my child try a class first?

Yes. Your child is very welcome to come along for a FREE trial session to meet the group, experience the class and see whether LAMDA feels right for them before deciding whether to join.
