What Happens in Star Performers?

Star Performers gives teenagers the opportunity to explore performing arts in greater depth, developing both their technical skills and their individuality as performers.

🎭 Drama & Acting

Students explore more detailed character development, script work, improvisation, devising and performance technique.

They’re encouraged to analyse characters and scenes, make confident creative choices and develop their ability to communicate meaning and emotion through performance.

Sessions may also include audition technique, monologues, ensemble work and creating original material.

💃 Dance

Students experience a varied programme of dance styles, which may include ballet, contemporary, lyrical, street dance, jazz, commercial and modern theatre.

The focus progresses towards stronger technique, musicality, control, versatility and performance quality, with increasingly challenging choreography and opportunities for students to contribute their own creative ideas.

🎤 Musical Theatre

Combining acting, singing and movement, musical theatre sessions help students develop stage presence, characterisation, storytelling and ensemble performance.

Students explore how the different disciplines work together to create a complete performance, with opportunities to work on songs, scenes and choreography from a variety of musical theatre styles.

Is Star Performers Right for My Teen?

Star Performers could be a great fit for a teenager who:

  • Loves acting, dancing, singing or performing
  • Wants to develop their skills in greater depth
  • Enjoys challenging themselves and trying new things
  • Would like to build confidence and stage presence
  • Enjoys being creative and contributing their own ideas
  • Wants to work alongside other teenagers who share an interest in performing
  • Is interested in performances, auditions or further performing arts training

Previous experience can be helpful, but enthusiasm, commitment and a willingness to learn are just as important.

Developing Independent Performers

As students get older, we encourage them to take greater ownership of their training and creative choices.

Star Performers are given opportunities to contribute ideas, explore characters and choreography in greater depth and develop their own individual performance style.

Alongside technical training, students naturally develop valuable skills including communication, teamwork, leadership, resilience, independence and creative thinking — skills that can support them both on and off the stage.

More Than Just Performing

For teenagers, having somewhere they can feel comfortable being themselves can be just as important as the training itself.

Star Performers offers a welcoming space where young people can meet others with similar interests, be creative, challenge themselves and feel part of a supportive ensemble.

There’s no expectation for everyone to have the same personality or level of confidence. We encourage each student to develop at their own pace while helping them recognise and build on their individual strengths.

Performance Opportunities

Performance is an important part of Star Performers, giving students the opportunity to put their training into practice and experience the excitement of working towards a shared goal.

Throughout the year, students work towards shows and performance projects, with other performance opportunities and special events offered where appropriate.

As our oldest Stage Stars group, students may also have opportunities to take on more challenging material, greater creative responsibility and leadership roles within whole-school productions and events.

Further Training & LAMDA

Teenagers who would like to develop their acting and communication skills further can also explore our Senior LAMDA classes, with the option to work towards nationally recognised LAMDA qualifications.

LAMDA training can complement Star Performers particularly well for students interested in developing their acting technique, preparing monologues, improving communication skills or working towards further performing arts training.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does my teenager need previous performing arts experience?

Not necessarily. Star Performers offers more in-depth training, but we also recognise that young people discover performing arts at different ages.

Enthusiasm, commitment and a willingness to learn are important, and we’re always happy to discuss whether the group would be the right fit for your teenager.

What should they wear?

For a trial, comfortable clothing that allows them to move freely is absolutely fine. There’s no need to buy anything special before they start, and we can advise on suitable classwear if they decide to continue.

What styles of dance will they learn?

Students experience a varied programme which may include ballet, contemporary, lyrical, street dance, jazz, commercial and modern theatre, helping them become versatile performers.

Do students have to be confident performers already?

No. Some teenagers join us already feeling very comfortable on stage, while others are still developing their confidence.

We provide a supportive environment where students can challenge themselves, develop their skills and grow in confidence without feeling judged or compared with others.

Are there opportunities to perform?

Yes. Performance is an important part of Star Performers, with students working towards shows and performance projects throughout the year.
