What Happens at a Free Trial Class at All Access?
Thinking about trying an All Access class for your child but not quite sure what to expect?
Trying a new class can feel like a big step — for children and parents! That's why we offer a free trial across our children's classes, giving your child the chance to come along, meet us, experience the class and see how they feel before you commit to anything.
Whether they're interested in dance, drama, musical theatre or LAMDA, their free trial isn't an audition or a test. They don't need previous experience, and they certainly don't need to arrive feeling confident.
It's simply a chance to give it a go.
Here's what you and your child can expect from their first class at All Access.
Before Your Child's Free Trial
Once your child's trial has been arranged, you'll receive the information you need, including the class time, where to come and anything they might need to bring.
There's no need to rush out and buy specialist clothing or equipment before they've even tried the class. Comfortable clothing that allows them to move freely is absolutely fine for most first sessions, and I'll let you know beforehand if there's anything particular they need.
Our children's performing arts classes are based in Lacey Green, near Princes Risborough, with classes available for different ages, interests and experience levels.
What Happens When They Arrive?
First of all, they'll be welcomed into the class and introduced to the group.
Some children are ready to get involved almost immediately. Others prefer to stay close to their parent, watch what's happening or take a little time to feel comfortable first.
Both are absolutely fine.
There's no expectation for a child to walk through the door bursting with confidence. They'll be encouraged to join in at their own pace, and I'll help them settle into the group without putting them under pressure.
For some children, simply coming through the door and joining in for the first time is a fantastic achievement.
What Will They Do During Their Trial?
This depends on which All Access class they're trying.
Across our children's classes, they might take part in dance, drama games, character work, musical theatre, movement, imaginative activities, scripts or performance exercises.
Our LAMDA classes have a slightly different focus, helping children develop acting, performance and communication skills through pieces such as scripts, poetry and prose, with the opportunity to work towards LAMDA examinations.
Whatever class they're trying, there's no pressure to get everything right.
A free trial isn't about seeing whether your child is "good enough" to join.
It's about giving them the opportunity to experience the class and find out whether they enjoy it.
What If My Child Is Shy or Nervous?
Please don't let this put you off booking a trial.
Performing arts classes aren't only for naturally confident or outgoing children. They can also provide a wonderful environment for quieter children to gradually build confidence, express themselves and feel part of a group.
Some children join in immediately, while others need a little longer before we start to see their personality come through.
There's room for both at All Access.
Your child won't be expected to suddenly perform by themselves in front of everybody during their first class. They can get to know us, become familiar with how the class works and build their confidence gradually.
What If They Don't Know Anyone?
That's completely normal too.
Lots of children arrive at their first All Access class without knowing anybody else.
Our classes include plenty of group, partner and team activities, giving children natural opportunities to get to know one another without friendships feeling forced.
Performing arts isn't only about learning to dance, act or perform. Children are also learning to communicate, work together and become part of a group.
Does My Child Need Previous Experience?
Not at all.
Our classes welcome children with different levels of experience, including complete beginners.
Your child might already love being on stage and want somewhere to develop their skills, or this could be the very first dance, drama or musical theatre class they've ever tried.
The free trial also gives me an opportunity to get to know your child and see how they settle into the class.
What If We're Not Sure Which Class to Try?
You don't need to work that out on your own.
Perhaps your child is constantly dancing around the house but has never taken a dance class. Maybe they love creating characters and making up stories, or they're always putting on little shows for you at home.
They might already know that they love drama, or perhaps you'd simply like to find an activity that could help them become a little more confident.
Tell me a little about your child, their age and what they enjoy, and I'm always happy to recommend a class that I think could suit them.
What Happens After the Free Trial?
Afterwards, I'll check in with you to find out how your child felt about the class and answer any questions you might have.
If they loved it and would like to come back, I'll explain the next steps for joining us.
And if they decide it isn't quite right for them, that's absolutely okay too.
There's no pressure or obligation to continue after a free trial. The whole point is to give your child the opportunity to experience All Access before you make that decision.
What About Trying an All Access Adult Class for the First Time?
Although our free trials are for our children's classes, new faces are always very welcome at our adult dance and fitness classes too.
We know that walking into an adult dance class for the first time can feel nerve-racking — especially if you haven't danced for years or you've never danced before.
You might worry that everyone else will know what they're doing, that you won't be able to keep up or that you'll feel out of place.
Please don't!
Our adult classes are designed to be friendly and welcoming, with an emphasis on enjoying movement, building confidence and having fun rather than getting every step perfect. We currently offer Adult Tap, Ballet Barre Fitness and Dance Party Fit classes.
Whether you're returning to something you loved years ago or trying something completely new, you can come along, work at your own level and get a feel for the class.
Everyone has a first class at some point!
